Samira Hakim
Samira Hakim is co-founder and director of Trans United Europe, a trans-led organisation based in Amsterdam that grew out of the bicultural trans community in 2018. Her work focuses on access to healthcare, anti-discrimination, and the rights of trans people with a migration or asylum background.
In Amsterdam, Trans United founded the Transkliniek, a community clinic that provides gender-affirming and sexual health care, by and for the community, to people without access to regular healthcare. The clinic is based at the TrUE Lounge, Trans United's community hub, where the organisation and its partners support trans people and queer people of colour, including refugees, migrants and undocumented people. Through QueerWork, Samira and her colleagues also guide trans people, including those with an asylum background, towards employment.
Internationally, Samira initiated United Trans Clinics (UTC), a global network of trans-led community clinics in the Netherlands, the United States, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand and Malaysia, launched during WorldPride Amsterdam 2026. Alongside it, she leads The Hands That Heal, a photography project portraying trans healthcare workers and community carers around the world, exhibited in Amsterdam and Sofia and travelling to new locations.
